Three thousand rural women in the three senatorial districts of Ogun state have been empowered with thirty thousand Noiler chicken in the second phase of the Noiler empowerment programme.
Her Excellency, Mrs Yetunde Onanuga, Deputy Governor of the state, while speaking at the empowerment programme in Abeokuta said that the programme is one of government’s continuous ways of improving the lots of the women especially in the rural areas.
According to her, Ogun state government embarked on the second phase after the huge success and excellent testimonies of the first phase when 10,000 birds were given out to 1000 rural women in the state capital in April.
She therefore urged the beneficiaries of the second phase to make a success of the opportunity so that it can improve the protein intake of their families and in long run add to the food security in the state.
Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs Adepeju Adebajo, said that the seven weeks old Noiler birds distributed to the women is genetically crossed between the broiler and layers breeds of chicken, making them stronger and adaptive like the known local breeds.
