To further increase food production and provide more employment opportunities for the youths, the Ogun State government has signed an horticulture farms agreement with an Agro company, ONIDA Agro and Aquaculture Solutions, for the establishment of large-scale fruits and vegetables farms in the State.
The farms which will be situated at Odeda Farm Institute, Ikenne and Imasai Farm Settlements, will involve production of tomatoes, pepper and cucumber in green houses, tunnels and open field formats.
Signing on behalf of the State government, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs. Adepeju Adebajo said the agreement was a testimony to the State government’s commitment to the development of agriculture and its entire value chain.
Adebajo said the project, which would have its first harvest later in the year, would provide fresh and healthy fruits and vegetables all year round to consumers in the State, South-west and beyond through proper packaging of the products.
Responding, the Managing Director of ONIDA Agro and Aquaculture Solutions, Mr. Kidron Israel, thanked the State government for the partnership, saying that apart from providing employment to the youths, it would also lead to technological transfer to young farmers in the State.
